Today, Facebook has started rolling out a new optional feature “Nearby Friends.” This feature lets you find which friends is near to your location.
If you turn on this feature, Facebook will notify you when a friend is nearby. This feature is optional and you can select who can see if you are nearby. You can turn this feature on or off any time you want.
For sharing this feature, you and other person both need to have this feature turn on. And you allow to share your location with that friend. You can also set a time period for which you want to select the location. And other person will be able to locate you on the map.
This feature is developed by the team Glancee which Facebook acquired back in May 2012.
This feature is available for both iOS and Android apps. Currently the feature is only available in the US and will be available to all in coming weeks.
The feature no-doubt seems interesting. But you need to use it wisely. It can expose your exact location that may create trouble for you. So, don’t remember to turn it off when you do not want to share you location. And never show your location to all your friends.
