Facebook has started notifying Facebook Messenger for Windows users that the app is shutting down on March 3. Company has not given any reason why they decided to kill the app.
“We’re sorry, but we can no longer support Facebook Messenger for Windows, and it will stop working on March 3, 2014,” the message reads at the top of the application. “We really appreciate you using Messenger to reach your friends, and we want to make sure you know that you can keep chatting and view all your messages on http://www.facebook.com. Learn more.”
Clicking on learn more link takes to the help center page where you can learn how to uninstall the app from your system. Facebook has also removed the installer from its website.
A Facebook spokesperson also confirmed the news in an email to Techlomedia saying: “We are notifying people who use Facebook messenger for Windows that this messaging app will no longer available from March 3.o.”
This news came after Microsoft announced the availability of Messenger app for Windows Phone platform. Facebook Messenger for Windows was released in March 2013.
