Tablet market in India has recorded 9.0% year-on-year growth on third quarter. It shows how tablet devices are becoming popular among Indian consumers. According to report published by CMR, 1,204,410 tablets were shipped in Indian market by various manufacturers. As expected, Samsung is leading the market with 15% share.

But report comes with few surprising stats. Report claims that Lenovo is following Samsung with 13.3% market share to be the second most popular tablet vendor in India. And third position is obtained by Datawind with 12.4% market share. Notable thing is that Aakash tablets sales was not counted in Datawind’s sale. Micromax, karbonn or other Indian manufacturer was not able to get the position in top 3.

Lenovo has shown its potential by getting the second position in the list. It is new comer and only vendor offering Windows 8 powered tablets. But most of the tablets shipped by Lenovo was powered by Android.

Commenting on the results, Faisal Kawoosa, Lead Analyst, CMR Telecoms Practice stated, “It is becoming interesting to watch this space as the market grows and matures. Like the consumer segment, Android OS-based Tablets dominate the India Enterprise Tablet PC space as well. But with more vendors committing to Windows OS-based Tablets, the interest levels among customers are showing increasing trend. In a couple of quarters we expect Windows OS-based Tablets gaining significant traction within the India Enterprise segment.”

As of now, Android is ruling tablet market. But recently launched iPad Air received good response from Indian consumer. We can expect Apple to get into the list next year if it gets success in understanding Indian consumers.

Report shows that demand for tablet has increased and it is expected to grow. People now prefers tablets over laptops. And most corporate people who want to have a light device to carry.
