Google Announces uProxy, Tool to Access Uncensored Internet

Google has announced a new new service called uProxy. This tool help Internet users bypass country firewall and access blocked content. It is an easy to use peer-to-peer gateway to access websites blocked by country government. This tool was announced at the Google Ideas Summit in New York, N.Y.

At this moment, the tool is not ready yet. So, it is now available for general public. It is currently in restricted beta version and company is inviting few testers to use the tool and notify the bug.

This tool works in simpler way. Suppose you are in a country A where you are not able to use few websites. Then ask your friend in other country for help. He will activate uProxy in browser and then you will receive the invitation. In this way, you will be connected to the friend’s Internet connection and access all websites. uProxy is not an anonymizing service.

“uProxy lets you provide a pathway for trusted friends to get safer, more private and more reliable access. You give access to a friend by email or chat. By accessing the Internet through uProxy, a friend’s Internet connection is routed through your computer before continuing to the site they are visiting. uProxy helps avoid attacks on your friend’s Internet connection. You can also use uProxy when you are travelling and worried about the security of your Internet connection. By using uProxy to route your connection back to your home computer, you can access the Internet as if you were in your own home,” uProxy website noted about the tool.

This browser extension is developed by University of Washington and Brave New Software.

Basically uProxy is the browser extension that acts like a personalized VPN service . This browser extension will be available for Chrome and Firefox browsers. And Google will also expand it to other browsers

uProxy is the opensource tool and source code will be released by the University of Washington.
