Today, Coding platform Github has announced two-factor authentication to add extra protection to your account. This move came after Github faced few major ddos attacks last month. Github hols a lot sensitive information that it want to protect from hackers.

Two-factor authentication adds one more step in login process. Once you enter username and password, website sends a one time code to your phone as text message or through an app. You should enter correct code in order to get access your account. This helps when someone gets your password. Apps that will deliver this one time code to you include Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, and Authenticator for Windows Phone 7.

“Today we’re adding two-factor authentication to GitHub,” Github Announced. “When you enable this feature, it adds an additional layer of security to your account. When logging in to GitHub, after providing your username and password, you will be asked for a two-factor authentication code that is delivered to your mobile device via SMS or a free two-factor application. “

You can turn this feature on from your account settings.

This year, many tech companies adopted this route. Apple, Evernote, LinkedIn and Twitter are the top in the list of companies who rolled out this feature to protect users account from hackers.
