Amazon Announces 7 and 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HDX tablets

Just a day after cutting the price of KindFire HD tablets, Amazon has announced its next generation Kindle Fire tablets. New tablets are faster, lighter and thinner than previous generation. These tablets come in 7-inch and 8.9-inch variants. These tablets run on Amazon’s new Fire OS 3.0 Mojito based on Android Jelly Bean. Company also notified that both tablets are now available for pre-order.

Both tablets are powered by 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with with Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB RAM.

The Kindle Fire HDX 7 features a 7-inch 1920×1200 pixels (323ppi) display. It also features a front facing HD camera, dual band wi-fi and dual stereo speakers with Dolby audio. It is available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB storage models. Pricing of these tablets starts from $229 in US. 4G version is priced at $329 and it will be available from November 14.

The Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 features bigger 8.9-inch 2560×1600 pixels (339ppi) display. It comes with 8 megapixel rear camera and a front facing HD camera. It also has dual stereo speakers with Dolby audio and dual band wi-fi. It also comes in similar storage models with prices start from $379 in the US. 4G version will be available for $479 starting from December 10.

“It’s been just two years since we introduced the first Kindle Fire, and the team is innovating at an unbelievable speed,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. “2.2 GHz processor, 339 ppi display, new 34% lighter design, Fire OS 3.0, and new exclusive features like the Mayday button, X-Ray for Music, Second Screen, and Prime Instant Video downloads. We’ve worked hard to pack this much hardware, innovation, and customer obsession into these prices.”

Amazon also claims that these tablets will give 11 hours of battery life on mixed use and 17 hours of reading. Amazon has also added Mayday button to deliver live tech support any time with one touch.
