Chinese eCommerce company, Alibaba has made its move to cloud storage market by acquiring Kanbox. Kanbox is a cloud storage service similar to Dropbox and Box. It also has an app for desktop and smartphones.Currently it has approx 15 million actives users. Price of the acquisition has not been disclosed.
Alibaba is also offering 10 TB cloud strage for free. But users will have to link their Laiwang account with Kanbox account. Laiwang is Alibaba’s chat service.
“Personal cloud storage will be a fundamental service for mobile users in the future and will serve as an important touch-point to reach a wider user population,” said Florence Shih, an Alibaba Group spokeswoman. “We believe this type of service is synergistic with our existing suite of mobile applications and ecosystem.”
Alibaba is not the only company that is offering this much of space for free. Chinese Cloud Storage Provider Tencent is also offering 10 TB cloud storage data.
