Google Starts Selling/ Renting Text Books in Google Play Books

Google Starts Selling/ Renting Text Books in Google Play Books

Add Techlomedia as a preferred source on Google. Preferred Source

As promised, Google has started selling and renting text books from Google Play store. The service is currently available in US and there is no word on global availability.

Google Play Books

Google has added a sub-section of Play Books in Google Play Books. Currently it offers text books from six different publishers at this point. But it may increase in coming weeks.

Students and teachers can either rent or buy these text books. These rented text books can be read via web browser on PC or Mac. You will also be able to read books on Google Play Books app on Android or iOS. Google has also updated the Play Books app and added the sepia reading mode. Readers will be able to highlight the lines.

If copyright allows, users will also be able to copy selected text to make notes. Google Play Books app is now more stable with better performance.

  • Highlighting and note-taking are now supported in books with scanned pages.
  • Added support for rental books.
  • Added support for copying selected text if copyright allows.
  • Improved UI design of the scrubber and recommendation cards.
