Facebook Announces Shared Photo Albums

On Monday, Facebook has announced shared photo albums. This new feature allows multiple users to upload images to the same album. Album owner can add up to 50 contributors in his album and each contributor can add up to 200 photos.

If you look closely, a shared album can contain 10,000 photos. Previously, you could add only 1000 photos to a single photo album.

While launching this feature, Facebook has also taken care of privacy. You can choose any of these three privacy options: public, friends of contributors and contributors only. With these privacy settings, album creator can control who can see his album.

This feature was also built on Facebook’s popular coding event hackathon by  Bob Baldwin, the software engineer at Facebook with colleague Fred Zhao.

These photo albums will be helpful while sharing photos of a group trip like camping trips, weddings and parties. Every person in the trip or party can add photo he/she has.

Facebook has started rolling out this feature to small number of users. It will be available to desktop users only. Facebook will expand this feature to all users in coming weeks. If everything goes right, Facebook will also increase the contribution limit and mobile support for the feature.
