Mark Zuckerberg Reveals 'Facebook Home' for Android

Finally, Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new home-screen experience for Android devices. This new home-screen is called ‘Home’ and will be available from April 12. This new home-screen is similar to other Android home-screen but with Facebook integration.

“You’re going to be able to turn your Android phone into a great social device,” Mark Zuckerberg said. “Our phones today are designed around apps, not people. We want to flip that around.”

This new Facebook Home aims to make homescreen experience focused towards Facebook updates. It features a realtime notification features. You can still add your favorite apps to homescreen. Zuckerberg said that messaging is an important part of life but switching between apps is annoying. They tried to make it easy. When a friend messages you, home brings Facebook chat head with person’s face. tap of the face to open the conversation. If you were in the middle of something, it will be behind the messaging. You can also easily switch between multiple threads.

“We asked ourselves ­if sharing and connecting are what matter most, what would your phone be like if it put your friends first? Our answer is Home. Home isn’t a phone or operating system, and it’s also more than just an app. Home is a completely new experience that lets you see the world through people, not apps,” Facebook explained in a press release.

HTC First will be the first smartphone that comes with Facebook Home. HTC first will be available starting from today with AT&T.

In beginning, Facebook Home will be available for selected smartphones only. These smartphones are HTC One X, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III, and Samsung Galaxy Note II. Other smartphones will get this new Facebook Home in coming months. Facebook Home will not be available for Gingerbread users. International users will have to wait for this.

Facebook will also update the app every month with more features.
