Firefox 11Today is the eight birthday of popular browser Mozilla Firefox. On November 9 2004, Mozilla has launched the first version of Firefox.

Firefox is a opensource browser which came in the scene 8 years ago and fought with Internet Explorer which was dominating the market share. It gave people a better and secure browser and got people attention. But it was then overtaken by Google Chrome. Currently, Firefox is the world’s third most popular browser, behind Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

“Eight years ago today, Mozilla launched the first version of Firefox,” said Johnathan Nightingale, Mozilla’s VP of Firefox Engineering. ”
We had the audacity to believe that we could change things. We believed that a community of people who understood the power of the Web, and who put people above profits, could build something amazing,” he added.

“These days, hundreds of millions of people trust Firefox with their online lives and they encourage their friends and family to do the same. We still put people first and, with the support of our Firefox fans, we drive the Web towards openness and interoperability,” he said.

Although there is a tough competition, Firefox still has millions of fans and lovers. Mozilla is also planning to launch a new version got Windows 8 and its social API which will enable integration of Facebook and other social networks with the browser.
