Google Acquires Photo editing app Snapseed

Google has acquired the company behind the popular photo editing app Snapseed, Nik Software. Snapseed is a popular app for iOS devices and comes with various filters, rotation and photo effects. Snapseed has more than 9 million users and won Apple’s iPad App of the Year award in 2011

Nik Software is a 17 year old company based on he San Diego and got a name for its product Snapseed. Snapseed app is also available for Mac and Windows systems. According to company website, Android app of Snapseed is also in the work.
Here is the announcement about this acquisition:

Today I’m excited to welcome +Nik Software to the Google family! We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone.

It is not clear why Google has bought this company but we can expect that Google will use this technology for Google+ or picasa.
