Most popular social networking website, Facebook has just beaten Google and it is now ranked number one in Alexa ranking. Alexa ranks website according to their daily traffic. Google.com is now ranked number two.

Alexa counts traffic of a website based on the data obtained from the tool bar. It means all the computer systems which have installed Alexa tool bar in the browser are used to collect browsing data. Then alexa update ranks of websites daily according to this data. So, Alexa rank does not guarantee that the website has more traffic than other website. But it shows that website has better traffic on those systems which have Alexa tool bar installed on the browsers.

But more than 60% computer systems runs on the Internet without Alexa tool bar. It means majority of traffic data is not being considered in the ranking.

Google was on the number 1 and Facebook was on the number 2 for past few years. Google has been ruling the alexa ranks for many years. And we are sure that Google will get its top rank soon.
