India Ranks Second in Educational Searches

According to a recent study by Google India, India is second for search queries related to education on Google search. It also added that more than half of the internet population in India only have age in between 18-35.

This study was compiled by Google search pattern and was conducted by TNS Australia on behalf of Google India.

This study also says that more than 60 percent students who have access to Internet, uses it for their educational research to get information related to education and courses.

“With over 60 million Internet user population in India being in age group of 18-35, educational related search queries are exploding on Google. Our core objective behind compiling this study was to understand the impact Internet is having on this young population with regard to education related decision-making by the students,” Google India Vice President and Managing Director Rajan Anandan said.

For education related searches, Indian is growing at over 46 percent year and year. It was ranked 8 in 2008 and now after 4 year, Indian is at second spot. US is at the first place for education searches.

This research also added that India is also growing in mobile search which is showing the growth of 135 percent per year. 22 percent of educational searches are made by mobile devices.

Study also shows that many educational website does not have mobile friendly websites which creates problems. Students highlighted the need for educational institutes to have more mobile friendly websites as over 66 percent

Google also ranked searches queries for courses which is IT or Vocational accounts for 44 percent followed by engineering courses (40 percent) and institutes, postgraduate courses with MBA (16 percent).

In India, students take 4-5 month research in the Internet about the course and college before going to take admission in any educational institute.
Students also want to watch the video related to education and career. They also search for videos uploaded by faculty and existing college students to know more about the educational institute.
