Microsoft Acquires Perceptive Pixel

During the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in Toronto, Microsoft CEO has announced that company acquiring Perceptive Pixel. Perceptive Pixel is a leading multi-touch interface provide company for Workstations. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by Steve Ballmer.

Perceptive Pixel is a New York based company that was founded in 2006. It develops large scale multi-touch devices that allows users to get closer to digital content. It got atteention when it was by CNN to track record of U.S. presidential elections in 2008.

“The acquisition of PPI allows us to draw on our complementary strengths, and we’re excited to accelerate this market evolution,” said Kurt DelBene, president of the office division for Microsoft, in a statement. “PPI’s large touch displays, when combined with hardware from our OEMs, will become powerful Windows 8-based PCs and open new possibilities for productivity and collaboration.”

“Our innovative, multi-touch platform enables professionals to become more productive, make better and faster decisions, improve results, and collaborate and present their ideas more effectively,” Perceptive Pixel says about itself.

In the conference, Officials from Perceptive Pixel demonstrated a Windows 8-based demonstration of OneNote, Microsoft’s electronic note-taking app. ballmer also said that Skype and Lync also would be good applications to show off on the new hardware.

Microsoft is already launched Surface screen as large display. Now it is working on tablet sized multi-touch devices. This tablet was formally announced as Surface now they are called PixelSense. Current devices are made by Samsung. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft will use Perceptive Pixel technology.

Microsoft also announced that Windows 8 will launch to manufacturers in August and be available for shipments and upgrades in October. Microsoft is trying its best to make its tablets successful. Microsoft tablet will take on directly with Google’s nexus and iPad.
