Twitter blocked in Pakistan

Today, Pakistani authorities blocked Twitter in the several parts of the country. Users from various parts of the countries reported that they were unable to access the twitter.

According to a blog dawn, the chairman of Pakistan’s telecommunications authority has imposed this restriction because of content offensive to Islam. Twitter and Facebook both were asked to remove these content and Facebook agreed to address Pakistan’s concerns. But Twitter failed to remove the content and now facing this blockage.

”We have been negotiating with them until last night, but they did not agree to remove the stuff, so we had to block it,” said Yaseen, chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication’s Authority.

”The ministry officials are still trying to make them (Twitter) agree, and once they remove that stuff, the site will be unblocked,” said Yaseen.

There is no official comment from Twitter about this blockage. Currently, the micro-blogging website is still accessible in some part od Pakistan by mobile phones on Opera Mini.
