Microsoft has just removed the beta tag from its social network so.cl and launched it publicly. This social network was ran in beta for more than a year and was tested by university students.

Company is not promoting socl as a rival to Facebook or other popular social network. It is created for students and colleges for research purpose. This website is based on the same theme as Facebook, twitter or Tumblr where users can share web pages of interest. You can see it as Pinterest.

So.Cl states in it’s About section:

“We expect students to continue using products such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other existing social networks, as well as Bing, Google and other search tools.

We hope to encourage students to reimagine how our everyday communication and learning tools can be improved, by researching, learning and sharing in their everyday lives.”
