Today Google has added a nice Doodle design on Google’s homepage. With this doodle, Google is celebrating Gideon Sundback’s 132nd birthday. While unzip, it reveals a search engine results page on the Swedish-born engineer.

Gideon Sundback was a Swedish engineer whose invention, zipper is now an important part of many of our daily products.

Born on April 24, 1880, in Småland, Sweden, he moved to Germany following his studies and emigrated in 1905 to the US, where he started to work at Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This was the start of his work with the zipper, Sundback made several advances in the development of the zipper between 1906 and 1914.

Sundback died of a heart condition in 1954 and was interred at Greendale cemetery in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
