Today, Twitter has announced that it will censor tweets based on the countries. It means that Twitter will withhold your tweets for some specific countries while keeping it available for rest of the world.

This is a nice idea because countries differs in ideas and freedom of expression. Some countries too differ from our ideas that we can not exist there. Suppose the thing which is banned in a specific country is not the banned in our country. In this case our tweet about that thing must not be visible to that country.

Until now. the only way to censor a content is to remove that tweet. But now twitter is giving itself the ability to withhold content from users in a specific country.

Twitter has announced in a post,”Until now, the only way we could take account of those countries’ limits was to remove content globally. Starting today, we give ourselves the ability to reactively withhold content from users in a specific country — while keeping it available in the rest of the world. We have also built in a way to communicate transparently to users when content is withheld, and why.”

If and when content is withheld, affected users will be notified of either an account or tweet’s censorship.

“One of our core values as a company is to defend and respect each user’s voice. We try to keep content up wherever and whenever we can, and we will be transparent with users when we can’t. The Tweets must continue to flow,” Twitter added.
