Research In Motion has come up with big move by making some big changes in management. Co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis are out, COO Henis will replace then as a new CEO.

RIM coo to join as new CEO

Research In Motopn (RIM) has just made a big move by stepping down the Co-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis. Current COO of the company will replace them as a new chief executive office. Heins joined RIM four years ago from Siemens AG, where he was the CTO.

This move came after the year which was not good for RIM. The third quarter earnings were another disappointment for the struggling maker of BlackBerry.

Mike Lazaridis founded RIM back in 1984 and he will now become vice chairman of the board. RIM Director Barbara Stymiest is to take over as chairman.

Lazaridis explained in a statement, “There comes a time in the growth of every successful company when the founders recognize the need to pass the baton to new leadership. Jim [Balsillie] and I went to the Board and told them that we thought that time was now. With BlackBerry 7 now out, PlayBook 2.0 shipping in February and BlackBerry 10 expected to ship later this year, the company is entering a new phase, and we felt it was time for a new leader to take it through that phase and beyond. Jim, the Board and I all agreed that leader should be Thorsten Heins.”

As we know that company is struggling and loosing smartphone market. Its playbook has not been getting good response from the customers. Android and Apple’s products are making it difficult for RIM to exist in the Market.
