Bad new year for DreamHost. After data breach, now an outage

DreamHost hackedDreamHost has been suffering bad days for last few weeks. This popular domain registrar and web hosting provider has reported an outage problem today. Its Web, SSH, and FTP services were down for many of the company’s virtual private servers, shared, and dedicated machines.

In the blogpost, DreamHost team said that “the apache (web), SSH, and FTP services on a subset of our VPS and dedicated servers are currently down. FTP services on some shared servers are also experiencing downtime. Our system administration and data center operation teams are currently on the case and we are attempting to restore services as soon as possible.”

Company also said that the outage only affected web VPS/dedicated and shared web server FTP services, while other services or servers, i.e. mail were unaffected. Due to this outage, users are also not able to move their file to another host too. So they are facing permanent down. Users can only express their bad feeling on this outage.

This is one of the biggest hosting provider so it was surprising to see the website down hosted on DreamHost. Few days back company had faced database breach and theft of some of their customers’ FTP passwords.
