Google has announced a big change in the way it indexes websites. Now search engine’s Googlebot-Mobile crawls with a smartphone user-agent to crawl and index the websites. This new bot will find the content which is best viewed in the smartphones.

Google announced in a post,”Today we are happy to announce that Googlebot-Mobile now crawls with a smartphone user-agent in addition to its previous feature phone user-agents. This is to increase our coverage of smartphone content and to provide a better search experience for smartphone users.”

The main idea behind this to find the conent which is optimized for smartphones. This will help to improve user experience while using smartphones.

“The content crawled by smartphone Googlebot-Mobile will be used primarily to improve the user experience on mobile search. For example, the new crawler may discover content specifically optimized to be browsed on smartphones as well as smartphone-specific redirects,” it added.

Google has added one more feature to improve the search and make it faster.  When it finds a URL which redirects to another url optimized for smartphones,
Google will start using that URL in mobile search results instead, to save users time.
