Gemelto has launched a sim card having some built in functions of popular social network facebook. The social networking giant already has more than 200 million mobile users, so this new feature could highly increase this number of connected users.

“Over 200 million people already use Facebook on handsets and those are twice as active as non-mobile users . By providing anytime, anywhere availability to the social network, Gemalto delivers on the growing demand for mobile connectivity all over the world.” said Philippe Vallée, Executive Vice President of Gemalto.

A spokeperson from facebook confirmed,”We worked closely with Gemalto on their Facebook for SIM product and believe it will be another easy and affordable way for people to stay connected through Facebook on the mobile phone of their choice. Facebook for SIM creatively combines technologies from some of our existing mobile solutions that especially are attractive for people with feature phones and have limited or no data plans with a mobile operator.”
