Android is the leading smartphone operating system

According to the study of a US based market research firm, Millennial Media Mobile Mix, Android is the leading smartphone operating system. The released report was August Mobile Mix Report and it says the Android has 54 percent share while iOS has only 28 percent share. While BlackBerry is the third largest with 13 per cent market share.


 few additional highlights from the August report:

  1. Android impressions (including both phones and tablets) grew 48% month-over-month.
  2. Windows impressions increased 48% month-over-month.
  3. Of all the impressions on our network, 32% came over Wi-Fi. Of these WI-Fi impressions, 59% came from Smartphones (as opposed to connected devices or feature phones), an 11% growth month-over-month.
  4. HTC reclaimed the number two position in the Top 15 manufacturers chart. HTC had 5 of the top 20 phones in August.
  5. Impressions from gaming apps grew 19% month-over-month, and games remained the top individual app category on our network – a position it has held for over a year.
  6. Music & Entertainment app impressions grew 13% month-over-month and was the second leading app category on our network. In this category, radio apps accounted for more than half of the impressions.
