GTA 6 Extended Look Gave Pre-Orders a Massive 436% Boost

GTA 6

Rockstar did not need another trailer to remind people that GTA 6 exists. Millions of players were already waiting for it. Yet the decision to put the game’s Extended Look on Netflix appears to have created another major wave of interest, with Sensor Tower data showing a sharp jump in pre-orders immediately after the presentation.

According to Sensor Tower, GTA 6 pre-order sales increased 436% on August 27 compared with the previous day. The momentum continued the following day, with pre-orders across August 27 and 28 up 572% compared with the previous 30-day average. These are Sensor Tower estimates based on its market intelligence and data models, not official sales numbers from Rockstar or Take-Two.

The timing makes the jump interesting. Rockstar had not released a major gameplay presentation since the second GTA 6 trailer in May 2025. By the time the Extended Look arrived, Sensor Tower estimated that the game had already accumulated around 4.55 million pre-orders.

In other words, GTA 6 was already selling millions of copies before players got this new look at the game. The Extended Look then gave another group of potential buyers a reason to finally place their orders.

The effect was even more noticeable on PlayStation. Sensor Tower estimates that PS5 pre-order sales jumped 606% on August 27, while Xbox sales increased by 127%. PlayStation has already held a clear lead in GTA 6 pre-orders since Sensor Tower began tracking them in June, and the Extended Look widened that gap.

There is an obvious reason for the PlayStation spike. The entire Extended Look was captured from the PS5 version of GTA 6. Players were not watching a PC build or a cinematic target render. They were seeing the game running on the console they will actually use when it launches.

But Rockstar was not the only company benefiting from the experiment. Netflix also saw a significant increase in activity around the presentation. Sensor Tower found that US Netflix mobile app usage during the reveal was nearly 50% higher than the average for the same period across the previous 12 Thursdays. Web traffic was even stronger, increasing by more than 125% compared with that same benchmark.

That is important because Netflix was not simply hosting another gaming trailer. It was getting people to open its app and website specifically because there was something they wanted to watch.

The partnership also created a useful sense of urgency. Netflix subscribers had the first opportunity to watch the Extended Look, with the exclusive window lasting six hours before the presentation became available elsewhere. That turned a game trailer into a streaming event.

For Netflix, this is an unusual kind of content. The company has invested heavily in gaming over the years, but GTA 6 is not a Netflix game. It is one of the biggest entertainment releases in the world, using Netflix as a place to reach its audience.

Rockstar played an interesting marketing game. Instead of promoting GTA 6 only to people who already follow gaming websites and Rockstar’s social channels, the company placed its biggest gameplay presentation inside a service with hundreds of millions of subscribers. And it seems the strategy worked.

There is still plenty of time before GTA 6 launches on November 19. Take-Two has not released official pre-order numbers, although CEO Strauss Zelnick has described the game’s pre-orders as “exceptional.” Sensor Tower’s estimates should therefore be treated as an indication of momentum rather than an official sales report.

Still, the numbers reveal something bigger than another successful GTA trailer. Rockstar managed to turn a gameplay reveal into an event that benefited both the game and the streaming platform carrying it.
