MediaTek has announced its new flagship Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M chipsets in India. The new SoCs were announced at the company’s annual Tech Day event in Delhi and are built using a 2nm process.

The new chipsets focus on improved power efficiency, on-device AI processing, gaming, and camera performance. MediaTek is also putting more focus on agentic AI, which allows AI systems to understand context and perform tasks with less user input.

The company confirmed that the upcoming OPPO Find X10 series will use the new platform. The OPPO Find X10 Pro Max will be the first smartphone to use the Dimensity 9600 Pro in India.

MediaTek’s Tech Day event brought together industry analysts and smartphone makers, including Samsung, OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo, realme, OnePlus, Nothing, Motorola, TECNO, Infinix, and iQOO. The company also showcased several smartphones and tablets powered by its existing Dimensity chipsets.

Dimensity 9600 Pro specifications

The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses an all-big-core CPU architecture. It has two C2-Ultra cores clocked at up to 4.55GHz, along with six C2-Pro cores. Three of these cores run at up to 4.35GHz, while the remaining three are clocked at 3.1GHz.

MediaTek claims the new CPU delivers a 17% improvement in single-core performance and a 15% improvement in multi-core performance over the previous generation. It also claims up to a 61% reduction in multi-core power consumption.

AI is another major focus of the new chipset. The Dimensity 9600 Pro comes with the NPU 1090 along with a second power-efficient NPU designed for always-on AI workloads. MediaTek says the NPU 1090 offers a 51% improvement in LLM prefill performance and a 55% improvement in token generation per watt.

The chipset can support AI models with up to 30 billion parameters. The second-generation power-efficient NPU is claimed to reduce power consumption by up to 40% for always-on AI tasks.

For gaming, the Dimensity 9600 Pro uses the new G2-Ultra NX GPU. MediaTek claims an 18% improvement in hardware-accelerated ray tracing and a 27% increase in peak rendering performance. At the same time, the GPU can reduce power consumption by up to 24%.

The chipset supports display refresh rates of up to 185Hz and works with MediaTek’s Neural Graphics Architecture and HyperEngine gaming technologies.

The camera capabilities are handled by the Imagiq 1290 ISP. It supports up to 17EV dynamic range capture and 4K video recording at up to 240fps for slow-motion video. It also supports 4K video at 120fps in cinematic log format and 4K at 60fps with AI-based True Color Tone processing.

The ISP also uses the NPU for motion capture at up to 60fps.

Dimensity 9600M specifications

Dimensity 9600M chipset is positioned below the Pro model while still bringing several flagship-level features. It includes MediaTek’s Agentic AI Engine and Scheduling Engine, along with HyperEngine gaming optimizations. The chipset supports up to 185fps gaming, always-on context perception, and real-time AI image processing.

MediaTek has not shared details about the first smartphones that will use the Dimensity 9600M.

Availability

We already know that the Find X10 Pro Max will be the first device to use the Dimensity 9600 Pro in India. More smartphone makers are expected to announce devices using the new chipsets in the coming months.

MediaTek says commercial devices powered by the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M are expected to become available within the current quarter.
