PlayerUnknown Productions has announced that it is halting further development of Prologue: Go Wayback!, the open-world survival game led by PUBG creator Brendan Greene. The decision comes as the studio undergoes restructuring and reduces the size of its team.
The game was released in Early Access in November 2025 after spending several years in development. It was one of Greene’s most ambitious projects. It served as both a survival game and a testing ground for new technologies being developed by the studio.
In a statement shared on the game’s Steam page, the developer said it had made the difficult decision to shrink the studio, making it impossible to continue supporting the game’s Early Access roadmap. The team said its immediate focus is on supporting affected employees during the transition.
Before development stops, the studio plans to release one final major update. The update will add new items, paths, and trails to improve exploration. Once the update is released, Prologue: Go Wayback! will leave Early Access and become free for all players.
The developer also said it is exploring the possibility of offering refunds to players who purchased the game. However, no guarantees have been made regarding refunds at this stage.
In a separate statement, Brendan Greene revealed that he could no longer continue funding the project in its current form. According to Greene, the game required significant investment not only for development but also for the research and creation of new technologies that support the studio’s long-term vision.
Despite the setback, Greene suggested the project may not be gone forever. Both the studio and Greene left the door open for development to resume in the future if circumstances allow. He also confirmed that the team working on the company’s Melba technology will continue operating.
