Capcom has released a new free update for Resident Evil Requiem. The update adds a new minigame mode called “Leon Must Die Forever.” The new mode becomes available after players complete the main story. It focuses heavily on action and combat, featuring fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy.
In the mode, players revisit areas from the main game and fight stronger enemy variants while racing against the clock. The mode also includes five increasing difficulty ranks.
Players can fill an enhancement gauge by defeating enemies. This unlocks special “enhancer abilities” made specifically for the new game mode.
Capcom says the order of areas and the available enhancer abilities change with each run. This adds more replay value and makes every playthrough feel different.
Alongside the new mode, the update also includes several bug fixes across all platforms.
PC players also get support for the DualSense wireless controller features, including adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and motion sensor support.
Capcom also announced new “Leon Must Die Forever” merchandise. This includes t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies available through Amazon.
The company also reminded fans that the first-ever Resident Evil amiibo figures will launch on July 30. The amiibo lineup features Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy from Resident Evil Requiem.
Before the update, the game was seeing around 10,000 concurrent players as its daily peak on Steam. After the release of the new mode, player numbers crossed 20,000. At the time of writing, the game had reached 24,826 concurrent players.
The same trend is also visible on streaming platforms. Resident Evil Requiem has seen a noticeable jump in streamers and viewers after the update went live, showing renewed interest in the game from both players and content creators.
Steam data and Twitch data show that the update has also helped Resident Evil Requiem get a sudden rise in players.
