Flyhigh Works and Esquadra have announced that Cytus II will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch in 2027. The game was originally developed by Rayark and first released for iOS and Android devices in January 2018. Since launch, Cytus II has crossed over 18 million downloads worldwide.
The upcoming console version will include songs already available in the mobile release, along with new songs and new characters created specifically for the Switch versions.
The companies also noted that the release timing coincides with the 10th anniversary of VOEZ, another popular rhythm game from Rayark that launched alongside the original Nintendo Switch.
Cytus II is known for its fast-paced rhythm gameplay combined with anime-style visuals and electronic music-focused soundtracks.
According to the developers, the game includes more than 500 songs spanning multiple music genres from Japanese and Taiwanese artists.
Players can choose from several difficulty levels including Easy, Normal, and Chaos, making the game accessible for both casual players and hardcore rhythm game fans.
Gameplay revolves around a moving “borderline” that travels across the screen in sync with the music. Players must tap notes precisely when they align with the moving line.
The timing and patterns are closely tied to the beat and melody of each track, creating a gameplay style that feels similar to performing music directly.
Cytus II also includes a sci-fi story set in a future where virtual reality and the internet have merged deeply with everyday life. The story revolves around a mysterious DJ called Æsir, who suddenly appears inside a massive virtual network known as cyTus.
According to the game’s lore, Æsir announces a giant virtual concert called Æsir-FEST that quickly becomes a global phenomenon. Millions of people connect online, waiting to discover the true identity of the mysterious DJ.
The game mixes this futuristic narrative with music-driven gameplay and character interactions.
The companies have not revealed pricing or an exact release date yet. More details about the Switch 2 and Switch versions are expected closer to launch.
With over 18 million downloads on mobile already, Cytus II’s move to home consoles could help introduce the rhythm game franchise to a wider audience on Nintendo platforms.
