Canva Launches Its Own AI Design Model and Adds Powerful New Features

Canva

Canva has today announced the launch of its Creative Operating System. It offers a massive upgrade that combines a decade of innovation into one connected platform. The new system brings together everything from design and collaboration to publishing and performance.

The most notable update is Canva’s own Design Model, the world’s first AI model trained to understand design logic. It can generate fully editable layouts, objects, and layers across formats like videos, presentations, and social media posts. This step marks Canva’s entry into what it calls the “Imagination Era”, where creativity takes center stage and AI helps people bring ideas to life faster.

Canva’s co-founder and CEO Melanie Perkins said, “We believe we’re moving from the Information Era to the Imagination Era, a time when creativity has never been more critical. With our Creative Operating System, we’re combining powerful AI with human creativity to help everyone achieve their goals.”

Canva now serves over 260 million monthly active users, generates $3.5 billion in annualized revenue, and works with 95% of Fortune 500 companies, including LinkedIn, Stripe, Pinterest, and Snowflake.

The Creative Operating System introduces a supercharged Visual Suite with major upgrades to video, email, and forms.

Canva is also unveiling new AI capabilities designed specifically for creativity:

Canva is also expanding its AI assistant, now available across the platform. Users can access it in design tabs, use it to generate visuals from text, and even tag it in comments using @mention to get real-time suggestions. The assistant can now create 3D objects, replicate art styles, and help teams collaborate more efficiently.

The company has also introduced new tools to make Canva more versatile for professionals. A new spreadsheet feature now works with its app-building tool, allowing users to turn data into visual widgets or interactive dashboards.

Another big addition is Canva Grow, an all-in-one AI-powered marketing platform built using Canva’s recent acquisition of MagicBrief, an ad analytics company. Canva Grow helps marketers create, analyze, and publish ads directly on platforms like Meta, combining creative tools with performance insights.

Canva has also entered the forms and email space. Users can now create online forms to collect feedback or survey responses, and design email templates that align with their brand’s visual identity — positioning Canva as a more complete business tool.

Last year, Canva acquired the Affinity professional design suite to better compete with Adobe. The company announced that Affinity will now be free forever, and its interface is being redesigned to combine vector, pixel, and layout tools into a single workflow. Canva and Affinity are also being more closely integrated, so creators can use Canva AI inside Affinity or move projects seamlessly between both platforms.

Now, Canva is moving closer to becoming a complete creative and marketing ecosystem. It combines professional-grade tools with easy-to-use AI features, while making advanced design accessible to everyone.
