Twitter removes legacy Blue verification badge

Twitter Blue

Twitter has finally removed legacy blue verified badges from all the profiles who have not subscribed to Twitter Blue. Users who want to get back their verification badge should subscribe to Twitter Blue.

Many celebrities, politicians, journalists, and news publications have lost their Blue verification badges and have also criticized this decision. However, some Twitter profiles still have their verification badge even if they are not Twitter Blue subscribers. This includes author Stephen King and NBA player LeBron James.

Now users who want to get a verified status must buy a Twitter Blue subscription. The subscription costs Rs 900 per month via iPhones and Android smartphones. Buying Twitter Blue from Twitter’s website costs just Rs. 650 per month.

Twitter Blue profiles have better visibility on Twitter and also give some exclusive features such as long-form tweets or edit Tweet button, undo tweet feature, and more.

The company initially planned to remove legacy verified badges from all the profiles on April 1, but delayed. Under the old system, Twitter awarded Blue verification badges to notable profiles. Users could also apply for badges by filling out a form. Musk thinks that the old verification system was not fair and wanted to get rid of it.
