Do you really use Chrome apps? Well, if you are one of those who still use Chrome apps and work on Windows, Mac or Linux system, I have a bad news for you. Google is killing Chrome apps for Windows, Mac and Linux systems. But, it will remain supported on Chrome OS.

Chrome apps were launched three years ago. But it didn’t get enough users. Google noted that around 1% of Chrome users on Windows, Mac and Linux actively use Chrome packaged apps. So, they will be removing support for packaged and hosted Chrome apps on Windows, Mac and Linux over next two years.
From the second half of 2017, Chrome Web Store will no longer show Chrome Apps on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It will continue to surface extensions and themes. From early 2018, Windows, Mac and Linux platforms will not be able to load Chrome apps.
If you use Chrome OS, you will still be able to use these Chrome apps in future. Additional enhancements on Chrome apps will apply only to Chrome OS.
Google also confirmed that newly published apps will only be available for Chrome OS. Existing apps will also get updates but only for Chrome OS.
