Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag3, its latest item tracker and successor to the Galaxy SmartTag2. The new tracker comes with a smaller design, longer battery life, improved tracking range, and a major change in compatibility. It can now work with both Galaxy and iOS devices.
The Galaxy SmartTag3 is around 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous model. It has a rounded body with an aluminum-accented button. Samsung will also sell a Silicone Case with an integrated keyring and a Loop Case for the tracker. The device retains an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
Samsung claims the SmartTag3 can last up to 550 days on a single battery under standard use. Switching to Power Saving Mode can extend the battery life to up to 790 days.
The biggest change is support for devices outside Samsung’s ecosystem. The SmartTag3 allows Galaxy and iPhone users to access core location and sharing features through the SmartThings Find network. This means people in households using different phone platforms can share access to tagged items, check location history, and use the tracking features without everyone needing a Galaxy phone.
The tracker also gets upgraded wireless technology. It uses Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, UWB, and Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network to locate tagged items. Samsung says Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding can provide distance and directional information at up to 60 meters, which is around three times the range of the previous model.
When the tracker is nearby, UWB technology takes over for more precise location guidance through the Precision Finding feature. If the tag is outside direct connection range, its location can be updated through Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network.
Samsung says the Galaxy Find Network has more than 900 million opted-in Galaxy devices around the world. These devices can help relay encrypted location updates when they detect a SmartTag3 nearby.
The SmartTag3 also adds several features designed to make tracking more automatic. Users can set geographical boundaries and receive alerts when a tagged item enters or leaves a specific area. The tracker can also detect unexpected movement and provide a Location History log.
The physical button on the SmartTag3 can be used to trigger preset SmartThings routines. This means the tracker can also act as a small control for compatible smart home devices.
Samsung has also included an NFC chip for Lost Mode. If someone finds a lost SmartTag3, they can scan it using a compatible smartphone and see the contact information registered by the owner. The tracker can also send a Left Behind alert when the direct connection with a tagged item is unexpectedly lost.
Samsung says location data transmitted through the SmartTag3 remains end-to-end encrypted.
Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 Price and Availability
The Galaxy SmartTag3 will be available in black and white colors. It is priced at $29.99 for a single unit. A four-pack will cost $99.99. Samsung says the new tracker will start rolling out in November 2026.
