Twitch has announced several new features for creators and viewers at TwitchCon Europe 2026 in Rotterdam. The updates include Dual Format streaming, 2K video streaming, automatic clip creation, mid-stream summaries, and more.
The biggest announcement is Dual Format streaming, which will allow creators to stream in both horizontal and vertical formats at the same time.
The feature is designed to improve the viewing experience across different devices. Mobile users will see a full-screen vertical stream optimized for smartphones, while desktop users will continue to get the traditional horizontal layout.
According to Twitch, viewers on mobile will also be able to switch between the vertical view and the classic split-screen layout. Rotating the phone will automatically return the stream to full-screen horizontal mode.
Twitch says Dual Format streaming will start rolling out next month.
To help creators handle the additional workload, the company is adding server-side transcoding support for Partners and many Affiliates. This should reduce the performance impact of broadcasting multiple formats simultaneously.
Another major update is the wider rollout of 2K streaming. Twitch will soon support 1440p streaming for all Partners and Affiliates.
The platform is also increasing bitrate limits to improve video quality. Creators will be able to stream at up to 9 Mbps for 1440p content and up to 7.5 Mbps for 1080p streams.
The move comes as streaming platforms continue to push for higher-quality video, especially as more viewers watch content on larger displays and high-resolution devices.
Twitch is also introducing a new Mid-Stream Summary feature. This will help viewers quickly catch up on what happened in a stream before they joined. Instead of watching from the beginning or asking chat for updates, viewers will get a quick overview of key moments.
For creators, Twitch is adding Auto Clips. The feature will automatically identify notable moments during a stream and turn them into shareable clips. The company is also adding automatic captions for community-created clips and a new “Best Clips” section within stream summaries.
These additions should make it easier for streamers to discover highlights from their broadcasts and share them across social media platforms.
Twitch is also expanding chat features. Tier 2 and Tier 3 subscribers will soon be able to use GIFs in chat, adding another way for communities to interact during live streams.
Most of the newly announced features are expected to begin rolling out over the coming weeks.
