Apple has introduced a major upgrade to Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2026. The new update brings several AI-powered features across iPhone apps and improves how users interact with the system in daily use. Apple first showed Apple Intelligence in 2024, but many of the promised features did not arrive on time. Some also missed the 2025 rollout. Now, with WWDC 2026, Apple is pushing a much more complete version of its AI system.
The company says the new update improves usability and brings Apple closer to AI competitors like Google Gemini.
Visual Intelligence gets a big upgradeThe
Visual Intelligence system is getting a big upgrade. Earlier, it worked through a camera control feature that let users scan objects and get information. Now, Apple has moved it directly into the Camera app. This makes it easier to access during normal use.
Users can now scan business cards and automatically save contact details like phone numbers and addresses. The system also understands more real-world objects and gives faster results.
A new Siri-powered mode in the Camera app can also read nutrition labels. It can track calorie information and send it directly to the Health app.
New AI tools in Photos app
Apple is also adding new AI editing tools in the Photos app.
- The first tool is Extend. It can expand images and generate missing parts when a photo is cropped.
- The second tool is Spatial Reframing. It allows users to change the angle or perspective of a photo after it is taken.
- The third tool is Clean Up. It removes unwanted objects from photos while filling the background in a natural way.
These tools are designed to make photo editing easier without needing advanced skills.
Shortcuts becomes more powerful
Apple Intelligence is now deeply integrated into the Shortcuts app. Users can simply describe what they want in normal language. The system then builds multi-step automations automatically. This makes automation easier for regular users who do not want to manually set complex shortcut rules.
AI features spread across apps
Apple is also adding Apple Intelligence into more system apps. In Wallet, users can now split bills by scanning receipts. The system can calculate amounts and request payments from friends through Apple Cash. Users can also turn physical cards or tickets into digital passes. In Calendar, Apple Intelligence helps create and edit events faster. It can understand context and suggest better scheduling options.
Improved writing, images, and emojis
Apple has also upgraded existing AI tools.
Image Playground now works faster and responds better to natural language prompts. It can generate wallpapers, scenes, and custom images more efficiently.
Genmoji and Writing Tools also get improvements. Genmoji creates more detailed and realistic emojis. Writing Tools improve grammar, clarity, and tone in text.
Messages also gets smarter. It can understand conversation context and show useful information when needed. Apple says user data remains private and is not shared outside the device.
Availability timeline
Apple Intelligence upgrades are available to developers starting June 8, 2026. A beta version for users will arrive next month. The full release is expected later this year.
