Meta has announced a new feature called “Incognito Chat with Meta AI” that focuses on offering fully private conversations with its AI assistant. The company says the feature is designed for users who want to discuss sensitive topics without worrying about chat history being stored or accessed.
The new feature is powered by Meta’s Private Processing technology. According to the company, all AI processing happens inside a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), which helps keep conversations private and protected from outside access, including access from Meta itself.
Meta claims it does not store conversation logs of Incognito Chat on its servers. This makes it the first major AI product where chat history is not retained by the platform.
Meta is also adding disappearing messages by default. Temporary conversations are not saved, and all messages disappear from the device once the user exits the session.
The company says the privacy level is similar to end-to-end encrypted chats. This means conversations stay invisible to outsiders as well as the platform host itself.
Meta also compared its new feature with existing incognito-style AI chat modes available in other apps. According to the company, many competing services may hide chats from the interface but still keep user queries and AI responses stored on servers for long periods.
Incognito Chat with Meta AI will roll out to WhatsApp and the standalone Meta AI app over the coming months.
Meta has also announced plans to expand its Private Processing technology to more features in the future. One of the upcoming additions is Side Chat with Meta AI. This feature will offer contextual AI assistance inside ongoing chats without interrupting or exposing the main conversation.
The company says the new technology is aimed at helping users safely use AI tools for private and sensitive discussions while maintaining stronger privacy protections.
