Instagram has rolled out its latest feature — a generative AI-powered background editing tool called Backdrop. The feature promises to offer a new level of creativity to users on the platform.
Backdrop, the background editing tool, has been integrated into the Stories feature. When users tap on the background editor icon, they will asked to enter a Prompt to generate a background to customize the background of the image according to their imagination.
If you post a Story using an AI-generated background by editing with Backdrop, other users who see the Story will also see a “Try it” sticker to try this new background editing tool. So they can also try this new image generation tool.
Instagram also introduced a video notes feature that lets users post Two-second video notes.
Snapchat also recently added a similar AI tool for its paying users. Snapchat’s new AI tool lets them create and send AI-generated images.

Meta has been actively integrating AI across all its major platforms, including WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. It also recently released a standalone AI-image generator called “Imagine with Meta,” powered by its proprietary model named Emu. With AI-powered features on social media platforms, users can look forward to an immersive and dynamic experience.
