Threads hits 70 million sign-ups milestone

Threads

Threads is growing really fast. The new social media platform hit 70 million sign-ups a few hours back. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the news on Threads. He also now has more than 2.1 million followers on Threads.

“70 million sign ups on Threads as of this morning,” Zuckerberg said in a post on Threads. “That’s way beyond our expectations.”

Meta has expertise in social media platforms. It already owns four platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger with more than a billion users. The company knows how to build successful social media platforms and how to scale them.

The primary problem a new social media platform faces is the connection. You will mostly be alone until your friends start joining. Meta solved this problem by attaching the platform tightly to Instagram. So, you will have your friends and creators you follow on Threads from day one.

Threads’ algorithmic feed also provides you with content you will find interesting. The platform already knows about you because it uses your Instagram data. So, you will end up liking the posts you see on Threads feed.

Several random decisions by Elon Musk already made most Twitter users dissatisfied. Now that they have an alternative where they also have their known friends, they are liking it. Threads feels exactly like Twitter, but I miss the Trending section. Twitter’s Trending section makes it unique because you know what things are trending around you. For now, Threads has no ads. So, people are getting a better experience.

Instagram has more than 2 billion users. So, we can expect around half of those users on Threads. The platform is growing and we can expect it to hit the 200 million sign-ups milestone by the end of this month.
