Threads, Instagram’s Twitter competitor, Launching on July 6

Thread, Instagram's Twitter competitor

We have been seeing Instagram’s rumored Twitter alternative for quite some time. Now, the app is ready to go live and onboard users. Instagram’s Twitter alternative is called Threads and the app has already been released on Android App Store and Play Store.

“Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow,” the app description reads.

Users will be able to log in via Instagram account and follow people they might find interesting. Once logged in, users can share the text-only post and discuss a topic the same way people do on Twitter.

Threads will be released on July 6, but initially, it could be released in limited regions. We can expect a slow rollout.

Recent changes in Twitter have made most of its loyal users unhappy. The microblogging platform has blocked unregistered users from seeing tweets. It has also added rate limits for users. So, users can now only see a limited number of Tweets per day. Twitter is also planning to make TweetDeck a paid app.

Twitter’s recent changes have also helped competitors like Spill, Bluesky, and Post grow recently.

Meta had tried releasing several clones in the past but didn’t see much success. It pulled several apps such as the anonymous teen app tbh, Nextdoor clone Neighborhoods, student social network Campus, video dating app Sparked, Cameo-like app Super, and more. Let’s see if Threads will be able to attract users.
