Popular messaging platform Discord has acquired Gas, a social media app popular among teens. Discord didn’t confirm the terms of the acquisition and financial details.
Gas is a poll-based social media app where users sign up with their school and answer polls about their classmates. The app is designed to give anonymous compliments to friends.
Discord confirmed that the Gas app will keep existing and the team behind Gas will join Discord.
“Gas will continue as its own standalone app and the Gas team will be joining Discord to help our efforts to continue to grow across new and core audiences,” said the company in the official blog.
Nikita Bier is one of the co-founders of the Gas app. She is an ex-Meta employee and was also one of the co-founders of an anonymous social media app TBH. TBH was acquired by Facebook in 2017.
Gas managed to get the top spot on the App Store back in October. According to Sensor tower data, Gas also reached 7.4 million installs.
