Since September, Apple has been warning Dark Sky iOS users that the app would stop working on January 1st, 2023. Now, Apple has permanently shut down the Dark Sky. On January 1, Apple removed the popular weather app Dark Sky from the App Store. The app has also stopped working for existing users who have the app installed on their phones.
Dark Sky was acquired by Apple in March 2020 and incorporated most of the app’s features into Apple’s Weather app that comes preinstalled on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple’s Weather app now offers the next-hour precipitation alerts feature that was directly brought from Dark Sky.
Apple will also shut down Dark Sky’s API for third-party weather apps on March 31. The company has already introduced the WeatherKit API as a replacement for developers who were using Dark Sky’s API.

After acquiring the app, Apple removed the app from the Play Store in August 2020. It also refunded subscribers who were on active subscriptions at that time. After that, the company started moving Dark Sky features to Apple’s Weather app. Now when the stock Weather app offers the same features that were in Dark Sky, the company has completely shut down the app.
