Razer has launched the Barracuda V2 Pro, a new wireless gaming headset designed for both gaming and everyday use. The headset combines gaming-focused features with a more understated design that should also fit in at work or while travelling. It costs $199.99 and offers Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), simultaneous wireless audio connections, THX Spatial Audio+, and up to 70 hours of battery life.

The new headset follows the original Barracuda Pro, which focused on delivering a balanced audio experience without the usual gaming headset design. However, its built-in microphone and loose fit were among the issues that made it harder to recommend at its $250 launch price. Razer has addressed at least some of those concerns with the new model.

The biggest upgrade to the Barracuda V2 Pro is its microphone. The original Barracuda Pro skipped the traditional boom microphone to maintain a cleaner look, but its built-in microphone struggled to deliver the voice quality expected from a premium gaming headset.

The Barracuda V2 Pro now comes with a detachable boom microphone for gaming and voice chats. Users can remove it when they want a more conventional headphone design. The headset also retains its internal beamforming microphones for calls when the boom mic is not attached. AI-powered noise cancellation works with both microphone setups.

The Barracuda V2 Pro uses Razer’s TriForce Bio-Cellulose 40mm drivers and supports Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation. For PC gaming, it offers THX Spatial Audio+ with virtual 7.1.4 surround sound, which is designed to create a more immersive audio experience.

Connectivity is another major part of the package. Razer’s HyperSpeed Wireless technology handles the 2.4GHz connection, while SmartSwitch helps users switch between compatible devices, including PCs, phones, consoles, and handheld gaming systems.

The headset also supports simultaneous 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth audio playback. This means users can listen to game audio through the wireless connection while receiving calls or playing audio from a Bluetooth device. It should be useful for people who game on a PC or console but also need to stay connected to their phones.

Razer claims the Barracuda V2 Pro can last up to 70 hours on a single charge, compared to roughly 40 hours on the original Barracuda Pro. The company has also reduced the price by $50, which brings the new headset to $199.99.

These changes make the Barracuda V2 Pro a more practical option on paper. However, microphone quality and battery life are only part of the experience, and the fit will also matter for people who plan to wear the headset for long gaming sessions.

Razer has made several meaningful changes to the Barracuda formula, but some questions remain unanswered. The company has not clarified whether it has improved the fit, which was a concern with the original model. There is also no mention of wired audio support.

At $199.99, the Barracuda V2 Pro sits in the premium wireless headset category, where buyers expect more than a long battery life and multiple connectivity options. Its detachable microphone addresses one of the original model’s biggest weaknesses, while simultaneous wireless playback makes it more versatile for everyday use.
