Oppo has increased the price of its Reno 16 smartphone in India for the second time since its launch in July. The latest price revision, effective October 22, raises the price of the top variant to Rs 79,999. The base variant has also become more expensive and now costs Rs 72,999.
According to a report by MobileTelco, the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant has received a Rs 6,000 price hike, taking its price from Rs 66,999 to Rs 72,999. Meanwhile, the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant has become Rs 7,000 more expensive and now costs Rs 79,999, up from Rs 72,999. Oppo has not publicly explained the latest price revision.
The Oppo Reno 16 launched in India on July 2 at Rs 61,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model and Rs 67,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model. The company increased prices by Rs 5,000 in August, bringing the two variants to Rs 66,999 and Rs 72,999, respectively. With the latest revision, the base model has become Rs 11,000 more expensive than its launch price, while the higher-end model has seen a total increase of Rs 12,000.
The latest price hike comes amid rising memory costs that are putting pressure on the smartphone industry. Manufacturers are facing higher component costs as demand for memory chips from AI infrastructure continues to affect supply. According to Counterpoint Research data, global smartphone shipments fell 20% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026. The decline suggests that higher prices and supply constraints are making conditions more difficult for smartphone makers, although it does not establish that memory costs alone caused the drop.
The price increase also makes the Reno 16 harder to recommend on specifications alone. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, which sits below the flagship Snapdragon 8 series. At nearly Rs 80,000, buyers will have to weigh its camera system, display and battery against competing phones in the premium segment. The iPhone 16 is one alternative to consider, depending on its current selling price and the offers available.
The Oppo Reno 16 features a 6.32-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It packs a 6,700mAh battery with support for 80W wired fast charging. The phone also has three 50-megapixel rear cameras, covering wide-angle, ultrawide and telephoto photography. It runs ColorOS 16 based on Android and supports IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.
With the second price hike pushing the Reno 16 closer to Rs 80,000, Oppo now has a tougher task convincing buyers that the phone offers good value.
