Resident Evil Requiem Has Sold 8.5 Million Copies

Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem continues to be a major success for Capcom. The game has now sold an estimated 8.5 million copies and generated more than $500 million in revenue, according to new data from Alinea Analytics. But the sales milestone is only part of the story. The platform breakdown shows that most of those sales are coming from PlayStation 5 and PC, with Xbox Series X|S accounting for a much smaller share.

Alinea estimates that 48.1% of the game’s sales came from PS5, while Steam accounted for another 43.4%. Xbox Series X|S made up the remaining 8.6%. That translates to roughly 4.1 million copies on PS5, 3.7 million on Steam and around 730,000 copies on Xbox, based on the 8.5 million estimated total. These figures are estimates from Alinea rather than platform sales numbers officially released by Capcom, Sony, Microsoft or Valve.

The split is particularly interesting because PS5 and Steam are almost neck and neck. Together, they account for more than 90% of the sales covered by Alinea’s analysis. Xbox, meanwhile, represents less than one in every ten copies in the same dataset. It is worth remembering that this is a platform share rather than a measure of the game’s overall popularity on each platform, and the analysis does not provide a complete breakdown for every version of the game.

Resident Evil Requiem is also available on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Alinea’s 8.5 million figure specifically covers the platforms included in its analysis, so it should not be treated as an official worldwide total across every platform.

Capcom’s own numbers confirm just how quickly the game has been selling. The company reported that Requiem had crossed 8 million units worldwide as of June 30, 2026. Capcom said this milestone was reached faster than any previous Resident Evil game. Earlier in March, the game had already crossed 6 million units, also setting a series record for reaching that milestone.

The latest Alinea analysis adds another interesting detail about the PS5 audience. Around 30.8% of the PS5 copies were physical sales. With more than 4 million estimated PS5 copies sold, that works out to roughly 1.2 million physical copies. The rest were digital purchases.

The $500 million revenue milestone is also significant. Alinea says Requiem has become the fastest Resident Evil game to generate that much revenue and is currently outpacing the rest of the series on a revenue basis. The analyst expects it to eventually pass Resident Evil 4 Remake, which has generated more than $600 million by Alinea’s estimate. That future figure is an analyst projection, however, rather than a Capcom forecast.

Capcom’s broader results also show why Requiem has been important to the company. In the quarter ended June 30, Capcom’s Digital Contents business sold 23.81 million game units, up from 14.16 million in the same quarter a year earlier. The company reported quarterly net sales of ¥70.41 billion, up 54.7% year over year, while operating profit increased 66.9% to ¥41.05 billion. Capcom specifically credited strong sales of new and catalogue titles as part of that performance.

Resident Evil Requiem was released on February 27, 2026, as the ninth mainline game in the series. It has clearly become another major success for Capcom, but the new platform estimates give us a better idea of where that success is coming from. PS5 and Steam are doing most of the sales, while the Xbox share is considerably smaller. Since the latest 8.5 million figure is an independent estimate and does not cover Switch 2, the final platform picture could still change as more data becomes available.
