OnePlus has officially revealed the design of the upcoming OnePlus 16 to give us a first look at three color options ahead of its launch. The company has also started taking pre-orders for the phone through major retail channels in China.
The new flagship will be available in three finishes, with Tomorrow’s Starlight being the most distinctive of the three. OnePlus has used multiple techniques to give the rear panel a different look as it interacts with light.
The Tomorrow’s Starlight finish uses an Interstellar Light Effect to create directional reflections across the back. It also features a Nano-Grating Texture, with micro-etched patterns beneath the surface that change the way light and color appear as the phone is moved.
The rear panel gets a Silk Glass Process as well. The matte-treated glass is designed to reduce fingerprints and smudges while maintaining a smooth feel.
The other two finishes include a darker variant with contrasting accents and a special edition featuring deep reddish-terracotta tones.
Alongside the design reveal, new reports have shared details about the performance hardware expected inside the OnePlus 16. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the phone could introduce a new Windspeed gaming kernel, developed in collaboration with Qualcomm. The system is reportedly based on Qualcomm’s upcoming SM8975 platform, which is expected to be introduced at the Snapdragon Summit this week.
The gaming system is said to include custom driver-level GPU optimizations and advanced image reconstruction and frame-generation technology. The reported target is particularly ambitious, with the phone allegedly capable of sustaining frame rates of up to 180FPS in Genshin Impact under bare-metal configurations.
These figures should be treated as early claims rather than confirmed real-world performance. Sustained gaming performance will depend on factors such as thermal management, power consumption and the final software implementation. Independent testing will give us a better idea of how the OnePlus 16 performs during longer gaming sessions.
The OnePlus 16 has also recently appeared in China’s 3C certification database. The listing identifies the phone with model number PYB110 and confirms support for 100W wired charging.
OnePlus is expected to officially introduce the OnePlus 16 later this month. The company is likely to share more information about the phone, including its launch date, later this week.
