Motorola has unveiled the Signature 27, its upcoming flagship smartphone and the second model in the company’s Signature series. The phone was showcased during Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit keynote and is among the first smartphones to feature the newly announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset.
The Signature 27 also introduces a new naming system for Motorola’s Signature series. Instead of using a conventional generation number, the company is using the last two digits of the year in which the phone launches. As a result, the successor to the Signature is called the Signature 27.
Motorola has revealed some of the key specifications and features of the phone, but the company has not yet announced the complete specifications, pricing or exact launch date. The Signature 27 is confirmed to launch globally later this year.
The Motorola Signature 27 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 mobile platform. It is one of the first smartphones announced with Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset.
Motorola has paired the chipset with a new ArcticMesh cooling system. The system includes a vapor chamber that is 40% larger than the one used in the previous generation. The larger vapor chamber is designed to improve heat dissipation and help the phone maintain performance during demanding workloads.
Motorola has not yet revealed the RAM and storage configurations of the Signature 27. It has also not disclosed detailed CPU and GPU specifications for the specific device.
The phone will feature a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera on the rear. Motorola has not yet revealed the exact optical zoom range or other specifications of the 200MP telephoto sensor. The company has also not detailed the remaining cameras on the rear.
The primary rear camera uses a 50-megapixel Sony LYT 910 sensor. Motorola says it supports 3.5-degree optical image stabilisation, which should help reduce camera shake when capturing photos and videos.
The company has not yet confirmed the specifications of the ultra-wide camera or any additional rear sensor. Motorola is expected to reveal more details about the complete camera setup closer to the phone’s launch.
The Signature 27 is also the first Motorola product to feature Audio by Bang & Olufsen as part of the company’s recently announced long-term partnership with the Danish audio brand.
Motorola has confirmed two colour options for the Signature 27. The phone will be available in Pantone Coal Smoke and Pantone Capulet Olive. Both versions feature a textured finish on the rear panel, which gives the flagship a distinct design compared with Motorola’s other smartphones.
Motorola is also promising long-term software support for the Signature 27. The flagship will receive seven years of OS updates.
This puts the phone among Motorola’s devices with the longest software support period. However, Motorola has not yet specified the exact Android version the phone will launch with or how many major Android version upgrades will be included within the seven-year support period.
