Lava has expanded its Virat V1 5G lineup in India with a new 128GB storage variant. The company had launched the phone with 64GB storage in July, and the new model gives buyers more storage without moving too far beyond the ₹14,000 price point.
The Lava Virat V1 5G with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at ₹14,499. It went on sale today, September 2, at 12 PM through Flipkart.
Lava is positioning the Virat V1 series as an online-first smartphone lineup, combining local manufacturing with online distribution. The company is also offering its Free Service @ Home program with the phone, providing doorstep customer support in supported regions across India.
The Virat V1 5G has a fairly straightforward design for its price. It measures 165.85 x 76.8 x 8.75mm and weighs 198 grams. The phone has an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, which should provide some basic protection against everyday exposure to water.
The phone features a 6.74-inch HD+ LCD display with a 1612 x 720-pixel resolution. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate and can reach up to 550 nits of brightness in High Brightness Mode.
The 120Hz refresh rate is a welcome feature at this price. It should make scrolling and everyday animations feel smoother than a traditional 60Hz display. The bigger compromise is the HD+ resolution. On a screen this large, a Full HD+ panel would have provided noticeably sharper text and images.
The Virat V1 5G is powered by the Unisoc T8200 processor. It is a 6nm octa-core chipset with a maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz and a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
The phone comes with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The new 128GB model also supports microSD cards with up to 1TB of expandable storage.
The hardware is not designed to compete with more expensive performance-focused phones, but the Unisoc T8200 should be capable of handling everyday tasks such as social media, streaming and basic gaming. The 4GB RAM, however, could become a limitation for heavier multitasking.
The phone runs Android 16 out of the box. Lava has also kept the hardware relatively simple, with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C port.
For photography, the Lava Virat V1 5G has a 13-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and a 5-megapixel front camera.
There is not much to suggest that the camera system is a major focus of the phone. The specifications are fairly basic, and buyers should look at the Virat V1 primarily as an affordable 5G phone rather than a camera-focused device.
Connectivity includes 5G SA and NSA, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and GPS with GLONASS. The phone supports dual SIM cards and also has a dedicated microSD card slot.
The battery is one of the stronger parts of the specification sheet. The phone packs a 6,000mAh battery, which is larger than what many smartphones in this price range offer.
However, Lava supports only 10W charging. This is a significant compromise. A 6,000mAh battery should provide good endurance, but charging it with 10W will take a long time. This is probably the biggest weakness of the Virat V1 5G for users who regularly need to recharge their phones quickly.
The new Lava Virat V1 5G 4GB + 128GB variant is priced at ₹14,499 and is available exclusively online through Flipkart. The 64GB variant was launched earlier in July.
At ₹14,499, the new model makes more sense than the 64GB version for most buyers. The additional storage is useful, especially on a phone with only 4GB of RAM, where users are likely to rely on local storage for apps and media rather than constantly managing space.
The phone is best suited to buyers who want an affordable 5G smartphone with good battery capacity and plenty of storage. The 128GB variant is definitely the one to consider over the 64GB model, but buyers looking for fast charging, a sharper display or stronger cameras will need to spend more.
