Finally, we know the release date of the third and final game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and Epic Games Store.

Pre-orders are now open.

The Standard Edition costs $69.99, while the physical Deluxe Edition costs $99.99 and includes a mini soundtrack, art book and SteelBook case. The Collector’s Edition costs $349.99 and adds a large Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth statue along with the Deluxe Edition contents and additional digital items.

For digital buyers, the Premium Edition costs $99.99 and includes the game, Story Expansion Pass and 24-hour early access. The Premium Plus Edition costs $109.99 and adds a digital art book, mini soundtrack and additional in-game items.

There is also a Trilogy Edition for $84.99. It includes Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The first two games become available immediately after purchase, making this the most interesting option for players who have not started the Remake trilogy yet.

In India, the PlayStation Store currently lists Revelation at ₹4,799 for the Standard Edition, ₹5,999 for the Trilogy Edition, ₹7,199 for Premium and ₹7,999 for Premium Plus.

Digital pre-orders also include the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summoning Materia. Players with save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Rebirth can also receive additional in-game bonuses.

Revelation will pick up the story after Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and bring Cloud and the rest of the party toward their final confrontation with Sephiroth. It will also mark the conclusion of the remake project that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020.

The biggest change in Revelation appears to be the scale of its world. Players will be able to use the Highwind airship to travel across a large interconnected world. The game will allow players to choose where to land and skydive down to different locations. Square Enix says the world will include different biomes, cities and remote areas.

The full party will also come together for the final chapter. Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine will become playable characters, giving players more options during combat.

The combat system will continue to combine real-time action with command-based mechanics. Players can switch between party members, use Tactical Mode and combine abilities between characters. Character customisation will include weapons, armour, skills and Materia, while the new FITS system will add class-based abilities and outfits.

Square Enix is already planning additional story content for Revelation. The Story Expansion Pass will include two story-focused DLC episodes.

The first will focus on Sephiroth, while the second will cover Vincent Valentine and the Turks. The DLC is planned to arrive between winter 2027 and spring 2028.

According to director Naoki Hamaguchi, the decision to create this additional content was influenced by requests from fans and the media. The DLC will allow the team to explore some characters and stories in greater depth.

It is important to understand why expectations for Revelation are so high. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, released in 2024, was widely praised for its combat, characters, music and huge world. It currently holds a 92 Metascore on Metacritic, making it one of the highest-rated games of 2024.

However, Rebirth was not without criticism. Several reviews praised its ambition but pointed to its pacing and the sheer amount of side content. Some activities felt repetitive, and the game could sometimes take players away from the main story for too long.

That is probably the biggest challenge for Revelation. Square Enix has already shown that it can build a huge Final Fantasy VII world. The final game does not necessarily need to be bigger just for the sake of being bigger. It needs to make that scale feel meaningful.

The Highwind could help with that. If the open world is built around interesting locations, discoveries and story moments rather than simply more activities to complete, it could address one of the biggest complaints about Rebirth.

The story will be even more important. This is the final chapter, so players will expect proper payoffs for the characters and storylines built across Remake and Rebirth. Sephiroth will obviously be at the centre of the final conflict, but the game also has to bring Cloud and the rest of the party’s journeys to a satisfying conclusion.

The return of Cid and Vincent as playable characters is another welcome addition. Both have been important characters in the original Final Fantasy VII, and giving them a proper role in the final game should make the complete party feel more rewarding to play.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is also arriving in 2027, the 30th anniversary year of the original Final Fantasy VII. That makes the timing fitting for the conclusion of this remake trilogy. If Square Enix gets that balance right, Revelation could have a real chance of becoming the strongest game in the trilogy.
