Apple has announced the Apple Watch Series 12 with a new Health Sensing System, the S11 chip and several new health and fitness features. The new smartwatch is available in 42mm and 46mm sizes, with aluminum, titanium and ceramic case options.
The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at ₹56,900 in India. It is available to pre-order now and will go on sale from September 18.
The biggest update on the Apple Watch Series 12 is its new Health Sensing System. It combines a redesigned optical heart sensor with a new electrical heart sensor.
The optical sensor uses larger and more power-efficient green LEDs. Apple says the system measures heart rate every five seconds.
Apple is also increasing the frequency of heart rate variability (HRV) measurements. HRV can now be measured up to 24 times more often. The watch uses this data for Recovery HRV, which focuses on daily stress and recovery, as well as overall HRV for broader health insights.
Overnight Recovery HRV is compared with the user’s personal baseline. A new daytime vitals view also lets users switch between daytime and overnight measurements.
Apple Watch Series 12 introduces a new readiness score that rates the user’s current readiness on a scale of 0 to 10. The score takes recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep score into account. It then provides recommendations such as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready and Go For It.
The score updates throughout the day and shows the factors that contributed to the result.
Apple has also redesigned its pedometer machine learning system for indoor walking and running. The company says the new system provides its most accurate step tracking yet.
Other fitness updates include a new Steps complication, a real-time heart-rate complication and improvements to Exercise and Move tracking.
Apple Watch Series 12 offers up to 24 hours of everyday battery life. During an outdoor workout, the watch can provide up to 10 hours of battery life.
Apple says this is 25% more battery life compared with the previous generation. Fast charging has also been improved. A 15-minute charge can provide up to 12 hours of additional battery life.
The S11 chip also enables new Audio Intelligence features when combined with Apple Intelligence models running on the connected iPhone and Apple’s Private Cloud Compute.
The features include Sound Recognition, which can detect sounds such as sirens, alarms, doorbells and a baby crying.
Live Rewind can show the previous 15 seconds of a conversation as text after a double press of the Digital Crown. Siri Recap provides a summary with key points, while Music Recognition can identify nearby songs using Shazam.
Apple says raw audio is not accessible to the operating system, apps or users. The company says the audio is processed inside a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave and immediately deleted.
Live Rewind and Siri Recap will initially be available as beta features later this year.
The Apple Watch Series 12 runs watchOS 27 and supports Siri features powered by Apple Intelligence. The software also adds a redesigned Siri app, a Siri Modular watch face and a Dynamic app grid that can suggest five apps based on the user’s activity.
The Smart Stack has also been updated with new gestures for opening widgets, scrolling and selecting items. It can provide contextual suggestions, such as a reminder about a parked car or a birthday message.
watchOS 27 also adds Cycle Tracking features for perimenopause and menopause. Workout Buddy can now work without the iPhone nearby and supports both English and Spanish.
Apple Watch Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes.

The aluminum versions use Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is 60% tougher than the previous Ion-X glass.
Apple is also offering several band options, including Sport Band, Sport Loop, Nike Sport Band, Nike Sport Loop, Milanese Loop and Modern Buckle.
Apple has also announced the Apple Watch Hermès Series 12. It is available in radiant gold titanium for the first time, along with a silver titanium option.
The radiant gold version comes with an exclusive Noir satin Clou de Selle band with a matching gold-finish clasp and saddle stud. There is also a Rocabar Club band with contrasting colours and an elongated H pattern.

Apple Watch Series 12 is available to pre-order in India and more than 50 other countries and regions. It will be available in stores from September 18.
watchOS 27 will be available from September 14 for Apple Watch Series 9 and later, Apple Watch SE 3, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later. It requires an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later, running iOS 27 or later.
