Acer is giving its eco-friendly Vero laptop series a major upgrade. The new Acer Vero 16, unveiled at IFA 2026, combines a repair-focused design with Intel’s latest processors and a 16-inch OLED display.
The Vero series has always focused on reducing the environmental impact of laptops. With the Vero 16, Acer is putting more emphasis on something that is often overlooked: keeping a laptop usable for longer instead of replacing it when a component fails.
Acer is calling this a move from its previous 3R approach of reduce, reuse and recycle to 4R, with repair added to the list.
The Vero 16 has a tool-free latch on the bottom cover, which gives users easier access to the internal hardware. The battery and SSD can be replaced, while the I/O port covers and hinge are also detachable.
Acer says the chassis is designed to support processor upgrades across at least two hardware generations. If this works as promised, it could significantly extend the useful life of the laptop.
The design also uses more recycled and low-carbon materials. The top and palm rest are made using 50% post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50% low-carbon aluminum. Acer has also used a solvent-free powder coating and will ship the laptop in fully recyclable packaging.
The Vero 16 is certified to MIL-STD-810H standards for durability.
Acer has also given the Vero 16 hardware that makes it a capable everyday and work laptop. The top configuration comes with an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processor, up to 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB SSD storage. A 71Wh battery powers the machine.
The display options include a 16-inch 3K WQXGA+ OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Acer will also offer two 16-inch WUXGA OLED variants, including one with touch support.
The laptop is a Copilot+ PC, so it supports Microsoft’s on-device AI features such as Live Captions and Cocreator. Acer is also including its own PurifiedView and Purified Voice features for video calls and meetings.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The Vero 16 is entering a category where Framework has become one of the best-known names for repairable laptops.
Acer has the advantage of being a much larger laptop maker with an established global distribution network. If its repairability claims work well in real-world use, the Vero 16 could give buyers another option for a laptop designed to last longer.
There is still one important detail missing: the price.
Acer has not announced pricing yet. The Vero 16 is expected to launch across Europe, the Middle East and Africa starting in the first quarter of 2027, with specifications and pricing varying by market.
